Boer Goats are raised for their high quality meat, but they are also very popular as show animals. They are the perfect choice for smaller pastures and people who are trying to become self-sufficient.
|
Boer Goats come from South Africa and
can adapt to any of climate, but need shelter.
They breed easily with a 5 month gestation
period and twins are the norm.
They are browsers and will utilize a variety
of pastures. Meat kids are ready for market in
four months. Goat meat also called Chevron
(French), Cabrito (Spanish for "young kid") or
Capretto (Italian). It is a desirable meat for
diverse ethnic groups and health conscience
consumers because of its low fat content.
Boer Goats are easy to handle and care for.
They are curious without being obnoxious or
destuctive.

The above chart found in Gail Bowman's book "Raising Meat Goats for Profit." Bowman Communications
Press, 1999. An excellent book. We highly recommend it to anyone who wants to pursue Boer Goats as a
business venture.
